In Hitchcock's Notorious, there's a scene where Ingrid Bergman covertly meets with Cary Grant at a horsetrack. While they speak out of the sides of their mouths, Claude Rains watches on jealously. This scene is entirely lifted, or "quoted," in John Woo's Mission Impossible 2. Yesterday, I finally watched Battleship Potemkin for the first time. There's a scene where the Cossacks attack the local people in Odessa who have come out to show their support for the mutinous soldiers. There's a moment of suspense when a woman is shot and falls back against her baby carriage, which is precariously perched on the edge of a stair. Though less of a complete quote than the Notorious-MI2's quote, it reminded me of a great suspense scene in The Untouchables. (Really, I noticed this before reading the blurb at All Movie!)
