Meta-History and Skateboards
I've been on  a documentary kick lately-- Dogtown and Z-Boys last night and Scratch this evenin'. Regarding the former, Fernand Braudel's notion of structural history (ranging from a base layer look at the impact of topography and climate to a superficial level look at the impact of individual action) is reflected in the following chain of events: drought hits California in the 70s, pools empty, kids get a cool new Atlantis in which to skate, skate culture takes off....

No. 3 Killer
I've recently given myself a quick school in Seijun Suzuki by watching Tokyo Drifter and Branded to Kill.  Great fun and easy to see the influence of early Bond films.  I noticed that one of the extra features on the latter was a collection of Jo Shishido posters from the collection of John Zorn. I could only imagine it was THE John Zorn (AllMusic fans, note the nice upgrade in the site's format, which apparently has yet to hit All Movie). Anyone heard from him lately? Check out his essay on Branded to Kill.

Also perhaps of mild interest to film buffs, I was unsure what CinemaScope was and so I did a quick search. Please to tell me whether you find the description here a good one. (Incidentally, for some reason if you type in CinemaScope in All Movie, a few films pop up as if CinemaScope were a person receiving credits for cinematography...).
