On Seeing a Presidential Funeral Procession
So I stuck around after work and saw the procession go down Constitution Avenue. Pretty impressive affair. But actually this post doesn't have much to do with that. Instead, I'm just musing on the phenomenon of when everyone gets a crash course in some minute area of interest-- such as presidential funeral processions. People around me were talking about "caissons," and when I asked this woman about the "backward boot" (apparently Double R's personal boots) in the stirrup, she acted surprised that I wasn't familiar with such funereal symbols. I guess the same thing happened with the recent cicada epidemic-- all of a sudden people become experts.
Oh, and I saw a guy in a Jethro Tull t-shirt on the way back from work.

Other Sightings
A few days ago, I told Brendan how I had seen a middle-aged man wearing a faded Jason Priestly Beverly Hills 90210 t-shirt. I'm happy to write that today I saw a man riding his motorcycle "side saddle."

Another Nifty Word
A chess term of art, but it perfectly captures the intended concept: zugzwang
