Word
I came across this word in an opinion by Judge Kozinski (9th Circuit), whose opinions are always fun to read. It sent me running for the dictionary.
Eleemosynary-- of, relating to, or supported by charity.
He used it in the context of describing that expert witnesses don't normally testify as an "eleemosynary gesture."

Covertly Cavorting
FYI, I came across a nifty site today while doing some research for a paper. Guidestar.org allows you free access to info on non-profit organizations ("501c3" groups). So, for example, you can use it to find out that Natural Resources Defense Council pulled in $55m in revenue last year, while the Cato Institute brought in almost $17m, and the Federalist Society brought in over $3m. Also have fun with Fundrace.org, which is more convenient than the FEC's site for searching who donated how much $ to who. You can also do a neighborhood search. (Is it any coincidence that the top address for Republican donations in D.C. is 666 11th St?)

I'm Just a Soul Whose Intentions are Good
I looked forward to hearing Nancy Sinatra sing "Bang Bang" (not Femi Kuti's Beng Beng Beng, mind you), getting my rockabilly learn on with Charlie Feathers, spooking myself with the eery whistling in Twisted Nerve, and hopping around in my poodle skirt to Woo Hoo. Alas, what I've enjoyed most is Santa Esmeralda's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Yes, I finally picked up the Kill Bill soundtrack. "Misunderstood" is one of the highlights on this album, even though it clocks in at 10 minutes! The original Animals version of this song doesn't immediately come to mind, so I wonder if this is the equivalent of "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" from Pulp Fiction in that the cover turns out to be better than the original. (For those who've bandied about the merits of covering other songs, take note.) This is coming from someone who loves House of the Rising Sun, no less. I imagine some will dig "Misunderstood" in a "this is bad, but good" kind of way; however, I'm sure that Tarantino would point out that "No, I really like it!"
